Intergenerational Activities

Area and Heartland District, and General Assembly Activities
Unitarian Universalists of all ages have, (through the Greater Cincinnti Council, the Heartland Unitarian Universalist District and the annual UUA General Assembly) the opportunity to participate in a great variety of events and to meet in community with UU's from other ongregations.

Social Action
Social Action in an important part of the mission of the Hopedale Community. Our members and friends of all ages are active in our area in many endeavors. Special areas of activity are those related to the environment and social concerns. We often have worship services that address specific issues and are resources for information. Yearly we participate with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee in the Guest at Your Table program. The funds raised are providing relief to victims of natural disasters. We also have a Second Sunday program to raise funds and understanding for local service organizations and other agencies.

Larger Community Involvement
From time to time the Hopedale Community will participate in events in our larger community. This may be the annual CROP Walk, a community Seder, or Martin Luther King Day observances, or other occasions.

Intergenerational Worship
Many times throughout the year the Hopedale Community will have an intergenerational worship service. This may occur at holidays and at other times that are appropriate. Special services, such as vespers or Blessing of the Animals, also take place throughout the year.

Community Garden
A garden is adjacent to the Hopedale Community building; planned and maintained by Hopedale members and friends of all ages. Produce is given to those who participate or through monetary contributions, as well as to the needy in the area. Contact Tom Wright for more information.

Green Sanctuary
The program aim is transforming a church into a Green Sanctuary. The Seventh Principle Project is a collection of some effective strategies for maximizing the impact of a congregation on environmental challenges. TheProject manages an accreditation program for recognized Green Sanctuary churches and fellowships who have undertaken the process. There are five equally important goals:

· To build awareness of societal environmental issues among UUs.
· To generate commitment for personal lifestyle changes.
· To motivate UUs to community action on environmental issues.
· To build a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness.
· To build awareness of and rectify environmental injustices.

Contact HUUC for more information.

Circle Dinners

Circle Dinners are groups of members and friends that get together approximately once a month. The dinners include food contributed by each of the guests. The host furnishes drinks and a place to meet; or, dinners can be held at the Hopedale building.

After dinner there is a topic for conversation chosen by the host/hostess. Dinners usually start about 6:00 on a Saturday evening and are normally over by about 9:30. Although nothing is written in stone, and it's all up to the group.

Adult Activities

Caroline Soule Sisters
The Hopedale Community women's group, the Caroline Soule Sisters, is an open gathering of women who are connected with the Community. Our name honors the early Unitarian pioneer, Caroline Soule, who worked tirelessly for women’s self-improvement. Accordingly, our mission is to engage in activities which foster our own educational and spiritual growth, but also to render service to the greater community. Our message to Hopedale-connected women of all ages is: Come as you are. Come as you can. Welcome!

Meetings are the third Wednesday of each month. Contact Evelyn Ruth Thompson for more information.

New to UU Luncheon
A lunch served periodically after Sunday worship for visitors, friends and new members. A chance to get acquainted with members and freinds of the Hopedale UU Community in a social setting, and to have questions answered regarding the Community and Unitarian Universalism.

Welcoming Congregation
The Welcoming Congregation program is a completely volunteer program for congregations that see a need to become more inclusive toward bisexual, gay, lesbian, and/or transgender people. This program began at Hopedale in the spring of 2005 and continues to maintain progress toward official designation as a Unitarian Universalist Welcoming Congregation. MORE>>

The process includes conducting a series of workshops and training, after which the designation of a Welcoming Congregation is conferred.
